Some of the best development sites in Memphis are sitting empty because of contamination, or the suspicion of it. Cleaning them up takes coordination and capital that no single organization has on its own. That is what the Memphis Brownfield Coalition Summit is about.

  • What: Memphis Brownfield Coalition Summit: Past, Present, and Future
  • When: Tuesday, September 29 · 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Where: Crosstown Concourse, Church Health Community Room

EDGE is joining the City of Memphis and Shelby County Community Redevelopment Agency, NJIT TAB, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation, The Works, Inc., MidSouth Development District, and Grow America for a working session on how contaminated and underutilized properties get returned to productive use.

Municipal and county leaders will get into how EPA and Tennessee BRAG grants apply to underutilized property. Developers, lenders, and financial institutions will cover state tax incentives, Opportunity Zones, and revolving loan funds, followed by an interactive capital stacking exercise. Current EPA and BRAG grantees will share lessons on managing a grant and building community while doing it. Community members and educators can participate in the Placemaker Village and capital stacking sessions.
