The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) launched recruitment for its 2017 Emerging Leaders executive-level training initiative, formerly known as e200, in the Memphis area. The SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative is a federal training initiative that specifically focuses on executives of businesses poised for growth in historically challenged communities. The initiative provides these executives with the organizational framework, resource network, and motivation required to build sustainable businesses and promote economic development within urban communities.

SBA’s outreach in these communities has resulted in entrepreneurial success that generates new jobs, attracts investment, and provides a more sustainable economic base in distressed areas. The Emerging Leaders Initiative has aided more than 4,000 small business owners in sustaining and growing their businesses.

There are 17 spaces available this year for established small business owners in Memphis/Shelby County to receive approximately 100 hours of free training and the opportunity to work with experienced mentors, attend workshops, and develop connections with their peers, city leaders, and financial communities.  As a part of the program, each participant will develop a three-year strategic growth action plan with benchmarks and performance targets to help their company emerge as a self-sustaining business that creates jobs and contributes to the economic growth of Memphis.

Applications are now being accepted through Wednesday, March 1st.  Memphis class begins on April 4th with a mandatory pre-session on Tuesday, March 28th.
