Medtronic’s spinal business unit has long been based in Memphis. In 2021, Medtronic began efforts to consolidate its six U.S. distribution centers into two facilities to improve the customer experience and logistical efficiencies. EDGE approved a 15-year Jobs PILOT to encourage the company to expand their Memphis facility. The company plans to invest $133 million and committed to spending $19 million with local Minority- and Women- Owned Business Enterprises (MWBE). Medtronic expects to retain 365 current Memphis-area employees and create 265 new jobs. Most of the new jobs would be created in 2022, with all of them in place by the end of 2023. Â
