Community Builder PILOT
J.M. Smucker
J.M. Smucker’s approval of a 15-year PILOT encouraged the company to renovate its Memphis facilities to accommodate this production and invest in $96 million in related manufacturing and packaging equipment. Before this approval in 2012, the company was scheduled to close its south Memphis facility and relocate production to Ohio. In 2019, J.M. Smucker evaluated locations for production of Jif Creamy Clusters (granola snacks with peanut butter centers) and selected their Memphis facility because of a 6-year PILOT that created 25 jobs and an additional $9 million in capital investment. J.M. Smucker is a 125-year-old publicly traded food manufacturer that employs 7,000 people at 30 locations in the United States.Â
