Across the next decade, it is estimated that nearly 3.5 million U.S. manufacturing jobs will be needed with 2 million of those jobs expected to go unfilled due to manufacturers’ inability to find talent with the required skills, according to the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association International.
In an effort to better prepare the Memphis workforce, GMACWorkforce has partnered with Advance Memphis, Southwest Tennessee Community College, and Tennessee College of Applied Technology to launch the Earn While You Learn training program. Earn While You Learn is a four-week program providing skills training for specific jobs.
Program participants enroll in a free, 16 hours per week mechanics training program in order to prepare for their National Career Readiness Certificate. Additionally, participants are employed at 24 hours per week at one of five participating local manufacturers. After the training is completed, the participant has the opportunity to apply for a full-time position with one of the program’s qualifying companies.
